Delegating to A Virtual Assistant - Easier than you Think

Small business owners and entrepreneurs are busy people - However they also have a tendency to be people who really don t like to delegate, as to do so would feel like they were letting go of the reins and for most of them their business is really their baby. But no one can do everything themselves and still grow their business. One solution is to find a virtual assistant they can trust and delegate some of the workload to them.

No need to have them hanging around in the office all day but instead they will just be there whenever you need them.

Working with, and delegating to, even the best virtual assistants can be hard for a small business person. There are however ways to make it easier to do so successfully. Here are a few of them:

Decide what to Delegate – Everyone has their own personal strengths and weaknesses. In order to work successfully with a virtual assistant you need to figure out what yours are. For example, maybe you are great at building client relationships but invoicing and bookkeeping is not your thing. In that case leave it to your VA to take care of the financial stuff while you focus on taking care of your clients.

Nail Down Details – When you begin working with a virtual assistant firm work out exactly how you want everything to be done. You only need do this once but if there are set guidelines from the beginning everything will simply work better.

Make Your VA Accountable – From the very beginning it is crucial that you make it clear to the virtual assistants firm you are working with that you expect anyone working for you to be accountable for all their actions. Giving them that responsibility shows a great deal of trust and will usually inspire the VA to give you all they have got.

Stay in Touch – For the virtual assistant working with people who are miles away from them and they may never have met if they don t hear from a client for a while it is very unnerving. Are they still working for you? Did they do something wrong?

Take the time to send an email once every couple of days, even if it is just to let your VA know that things are quiet right now but you ll have tasks for them soon.
